I am a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and like most, we get it honestly from our family members before us. David Ross is also from my hometown so naturally I wanted to read his book. I went to his book signing at our local Barnes and Noble and stood in line for an hour to meet him and get him to sign my copy. All of it was worth it. But the book itself was so much more than I expected, in a good way. He is honest about his career even the low points including his battle with concussions, show more certainly a timely subject. But what I enjoyed the most was his journey to being the teammate and man that he is today. Not sure too many other professional athletes would be so open and honest. A refreshing book that for me was a great read. show less
After 108 years, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series in dramatic fashion. One of the unexpected fan favorites of the team was David Ross a backup catcher who made a career out of being a great teammate. That veteran and leadership presence every team needs, even if his skills on the field are underwhelming.

Ross tells the story of game 7 of the World Series inning by inning while connecting a thought or lesson from his career. Through this method, he covers his journey in baseball of show more playing for the Red Sox twice, (winning a World Series in the Red Sox as well), Braves, and Cubs after getting cut from the Reds and thinking his baseball career was over.

The whole point of the book is how to be a great teammate. What is expected of you and what you should expect of others. The last chapter lists all the qualities that a great teammate needs with a little synopsis and explication.

Great book. I loved watching Ross on the Braves and watching him capture baseball fans hearts with the Cubs as Grandpa Rossy. I also loved the behind the scenes look in the clubhouse and dugout as expectations are set for the season, for the day and for the game.
