I couldn't get past chapter two. The first two chapters were excellent. Then you get to chapter three and they stop giving you walk-through examples or hands-on examples. To be honest, I was heartbroken. I was really hoping that I had finally found a book that would teach me Javascript.

Good blend of Java, mobile phone and game principles. The book does a nice job of blending code with background and explanation material - keeping the reader moving along at a nice pace. The source code works as-is with the latest public Java SDK and the coding exercises at the end of most chapters are worth doing.

The innovative teaching method didn't really work for me. I tried either doing a bit at a time, or a solid block. I just could not muster enough enthusiasm to complete a lot of the exercises,finding them too specific, and I wasn't convinced by the problems explained as exercises. Best bit was the good explanation of regular expressions. I think I enjoyed that because it gave me the facts without some 'entertaining' text.
