This book is used by those who wish to prepare for the USA Amateur Radio exam. It works well for that purpose and is a handy reference once you're finished with the test. The meat of the book is the 436 questions that comprise the question bank for the test. It also explains a little about radio operation, although that is a physical skill that can't be learned from a book. I read this book four times in two weeks--found myself optimally prepared for the exam and passed it. Feels good that show more this thing is no longer my best buddy :-) show less

Excellent book for the person looking to become a ham or wanting to go back and get a refresher. Gordon West is the best author when it comes to amateur ham radio. Not only due to his knowledge and years of experience but also his enthusiasm break through and makes the reader excited. Excellent format and top quality.

Gordon West is excellent with his material and how he lays out the information. His passion for the hobby shines through in presentation.

It was good for what it was. 95% accurate compared to up-to-date question pool. Lots of formulae and circuits to memorize.
