If you need a fresh breath of joy in your life, this book is just the perscription for you. Barbara Johnson can help you look for "life's little sparkles," even in the midst of life's most crippling sorrows. Barbara has the wit of an Erma Bombeck, but she is a survivor of four devastating experiences that equip her with the credentials to help others work through their own pain. Her husband was in a near-fatal accident and slowly recovered from severe, debiltating injuries. She lost one son show more in Vietnam, another son to a drunk driver, and a third to the homosexual lifestyle. And recently Barbara herself was diagnosed as having adult-onset diabetes. Barbara will teach you how to release that bubble of job within you-to claim God's promise to "fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy" (Job 8:21, TLB). show less
Having recently reached yet another landmark birthday I have to finally admit that I am no longer climbing the hill of life, I have reached it and am heading down the other side at a fast rate. A fast read, HUMOR ME, I’M OVER THE HILL had me in stitches with such chapters as ‘Finding purposes in later life’ (how to use age spots, skin tags and facial hair to camouflage those extra chins); ‘Celebrating Senility’ (all the smart and good-looking seniors are relocating to looneyville, show more I’m just writing to give you my new address)! The different chapters are full of short anecdotes, jokes, cartoons and the sharing of her own life experiences along with some inspirational quotes from others who are taking senior life by storm. Age is not to be feared, it is merely another challenge.
Amongst the laughter is the serious message that at every stage of your life God is there and guiding you. In 2007 author Barbara Johnson lost her fight against cancer, such was her faith that while engaged in her fight she managed to add a further 3 or 4 encouraging and humorous books, including one on dealing with cancer. Barbara Johnson trusted God no matter what, that trust, and her unquenchable sense of humour was her gift and she will be sadly missed. show less

This book was fun, funny as well as spiritually serious about growing older, especially written for women. Being written twenty years ago, it's a little dated as far as the technology older people have trouble using. I like the cartoons and little jokes, but the serious spiritual stuff is good, too.
Encouraging book about a woman's adventures in ageing, full of funny stories and wit.
