This is a most attractive but mass produced , large format book on Australian art. Published in Sydney in 1984 but printed in Singspore . It is a clear introduction to the works of 54 Australian artists from the mid 18th century to the late 20th century and drawn from the great public collections in Australia. An introductory chapter by Martin Terry ( at that time assistant curator of prints and drawings of the Art Gallery of New South Wales) introduces the theme of Australian art and gives show more a quick overview of the different external and internal influences on artists in Austrlia - landscapes, Impressionism , the Heidelberg School, modern art, abstract art . There is something for everyone . A negative in the production of the book is that where a picture extends over two pages some of the illustration disappears into the binding . The paper is of a good quality and the color has reasonable depth. A favourite ? Probably William Dobell both a landscape and portrait artist of note , with the elongated face of the yellow jacket, fair hair Stapper, and the 1968 Unfinished version of the Opera House in progress. show less
