The score and songs are (of course) sublime, but for a once fancy legacy collection, the later entries in this series have really gone downhill. Where earlier sets had the amount of discs needed for the material, here we're served up what can fit on two. The list of deleted and alternate songs as long as my arm previously published in other releases of the score are nowhere to be seen, only a single one is included here. This also extends to the booklet, which has a long and loving show more introduction by Menken, but little else. Even the small concept art section manages to be wholly without a single credit to the artists whose works are being used. Come on, Disney. Either stop making these, or go back to the thorough, loving productions the earliest installments in the product line were granted. "Aladdin" deserves a lot better than this. show less
Hearing the album and then seeing the original Jesus Christ Superstar as a teenager had such a profound effect on me (I still know the entire musical off by heart), I romped through this entertaining memoir which is full of wit and gentle self-deprecation - and I seriously hope for volume 2.
My review is colored by seeing this show on tour. The memories of that are tied to the music on the CD.
The sheer joy contained in I Just Can't Wait to Be King contrasts with the plotting in Be Prepared. And the romance in Can You feel the Love Tonight is so sweet.
This is a CD that I would strongly suggest getting as a CD and not only as digital. The booklet includes the lyrics, including translations from Swahili. I finally know what Rafiki is singing!
Some people were surprised the songs show more in the play differed some from the movie. If you are looking for songs as they were performed in the movie, this is probably not what you are looking for.
Recommended for anyone who enjoyed the musical. show less

The soundtrack to the Disney cartoon, with songs by Elton John and Tim Rice.
2.5/4 (Okay).
The last time I watched the movie, I really hated the songs. Except for Circle of Life, they clash with the rest of the movie. On their own, though, they're not all bad.
