I know a lot panned this film, but I really loved it--this was the first DVD I bought. Mind you, I hate how this musical glamorizes the Perons and Che Guevara--whom I count as thugs. And yes, the music and lyrics are somewhat trite and cheesy to be honest. But I love the energy Madonna brought to the role. I just plain loved watching and listening to her take on this role and dance and sing and act her heart out in it. (And Antonio Banderas is easy on the eyes...)
Evita by Alan Parker
Not necessarily a good historical source, but great for creating an interest in history. Love the music, the dancing, the passion. Leaves you feeling kind of sad.
A big favourite. Though most of the people aren't actors, they still manages to produce something realistic, funny, and sometimes very serious. The music is well chosen, and performed very well.
