John I. Goodlad (1920–2014)

About the Author

John Goodlad was born in British Columbia, Canada, and educated at the University of British Columbia and the University of Chicago. A former dean of the graduate school of education at the University of California at Los Angeles, he has also been a professor of education at the University of show more Washington. Goodlad has written more than 20 books and hundreds of articles on education. Among his best-known works are The Ecology of School Renewal (1987) and A Place Called School: Prospects for the Future (1984). A major figure in the educational reform movements that began in the 1980s, he has been a leading figure in the field of teacher education for the past 30 years. In addition to his teaching and writing, Goodlad directs the state Partnerships for Educational Renewal throughout the United States, and he also is active in many educational organizations and task forces. De zoutwegen hoe vis de Europese cultuur veranderde by John Goodlad

Prachtig boek waaruit nog maar eens blijkt hoe hard onze voorouders hebben moet knokken om overeind te blijven om hun nakomelingen en zichzelf in leven te houden. Op het eerste gezicht lijkt het boek eerder geschikt voor de bewoners uit de beschreven regio maar al snel merk je het internationale, economische en nutritiële belang van deze afgelegen gebieden voor grote delen van Europa.
Ook komt indirect de start van de afschaffing van de slavenhandel in England aan bod. De aanpak tot einde show more 19de eeuw bestond er eigenlijk uit je eigen onderdanen als slaven, zij het dan blanke, te gebruiken op een gruwelijke schaal.

De vaardigheden opgebouwd gedurende eeuwen gaat snel verloren door de hoogtechnologische ontwikkeling van de laatste 100 jaar. Naarmate onze afhankelijkheid ervan toeneemt en de toegankelijkheid ertoe met een vingerknip uitgeschakeld kan worden, zou deze situatie ons vroeg of laat zuur kunnen opbreken. Denk hierbij aan satelietnavigatie, computergestuurde machines, enz. Anno 2025 merken we dat een narcistische immobiliënpotentaat met goedkeuring van zijn partij tot alles in staat is. show less
