Susan Perry’s book, with some contributions from her husband, Joe Manson, explores the social organization and behavior of white faced capuchin monkeys, told in the context of the authors’ lengthy studies in Costa Rica. The book is describing hard science, but for a popular audience, and the reader gets insights into the behavior of primatologists as well as primates. The capuchins are interesting subjects, with a rich social life and complex political skills. The authors’ great show more satisfaction and enjoyment in teasing out the details of the rules the monkeys live by make this a good read, especially for young people considering a career in scientific research. show less
