The author provides the reader with a brief introduction to the history of the marathon. This book targets an audience in the first grade, perhaps second grade. The illustrations are colorful and intriguing. The text is informative but elementary. However at the end, the author includes a short statement about the marathons of today as an explanation of the importance of the story. I appreciate the explanation of relevance because many students inquire about the importance of studying history.

Interesting story about the legend of Pheidippides and the running of the first marathon. I'm glad to see this story well done for children.
