The first 35 pages of this book is devoted to general information about dinosaurs (definition of and anatomy) and their history, the Jurassic and Triassic periods (etc), fossilization, discoveries, excavating and assembling specimens. The remainder is a dictionary (or alphabetically arranged gallery) of dinosaur genera, 55 names selected to represent important species, photographs. So it's of consuming interest to small children who want to learn the names of everything, and also of use to show more people who need to look up dinosaurs.

The illustrations, comprising maps, photographs both historical and modern (the latter including specially commissioned photos), and artists' renditions, are exceptional in quality, as we expect from Dorling Kindersley.

But we no longer have a precocious reader learning All About Dinosaurs and none of us are motivated to learn all the important dinosaur names, so we'll donate this one and reclaim an inch of precious shelf space.

The DK Guide to Dinosaurs (Ages 7-11) is written by dinosaur authority David Lambert and illustrated by photographer, Gary Ombler, and unnamed model makers who created astonishingly lifelike images of dinosaurs living and dying in prehistoric environments. This over sized up-to-date survey of all things dinosaur covers topics such as habitats, size, hunting techniques, self-defense, courtship, family life, diet, migration, and camouflage. The scale of the book is in line with the scale of show more the creatures it describes, and provides readers visual reference to huge proportions of dinosaurs by illustrating a Gigantosaurus and Barosaurus on a modern city street—Watch out, taxis, you’re about to be crushed! The busy layout filled with art, diagrams, text, and captions, will mesmerize children who will examine every detail lest they miss anything, and even if they do, kids can look it up in the index. Sure to be the most popular book on the shelf! show less
Well written with clear diagrams. Good index. If you need an overview of geology or a particular aspect of it, this book would be a good place to start.
This is a factual book that give lots of information about the long gone Dinosaurs. It has great realistic pictures and has lots of fun info. this book would be good for boys like to be adventures.
