David Burnie has authored over a hundred books in the Biological Sciences. His e guides Insect book is a hodgepodge of topics related to insects. There are articles on specific insect groups, more broad groups of insects (scavengers, true bugs, parasites, blood feeders, pollinators), and a number of topics which explore insect's connections with daily life. It is packed with information, but most of the space is reserved for large and clear photos. However, no space is wasted. Nearly all show more photos have text associated with them, clearly describing what is going on in the pictures or drawings.

What makes e guides different is its connection with the world wide web. At the accompanying website, http://www.insect.dke-guides.com, the reader can use keywords within the book to further explore topics covered in the book. The results of the keyword search connects the content in the book to diagrams, pictures, and videos on the website. This will give alternate presentations of the material, creating options to absorb the information. While I have not explored the website fully, the time I did spend there was hassle free and marginally enlightening. Combining the book with the website allows updating and extending material easier. If only the bloodsuckers that make textbooks would borrow this idea, I might pay off my student loans before I'm ninety.

Absolutely glorious. If I was a kid and owned it, it would be a treasure that would give me comfort with every gorgeous photograph. To learn that so many wonderful creatures share this world with us is to learn to appreciate one's own life, too.

I particularly appreciate the Scale key for each spread. It really is enlightening to learn, for example, not only how many different kinds of dolphins and porpoises there are, but how they vary in size so much.

Organization is fine. Information is show more concise... because it needs to be, in order to fit in one volume. Kids can certainly look up more information on the critters that appeal to them.

I am a harsh critic of books on birds because I love birds. Eyewitness Books does not disappoint. This book is suitable for all ages and purposes. It would be suitable as a picture book for young children and as a general reference book for all others. The book is visually interesting because every page is filled with high quality photos and illustrations. It is also scattered with interesting facts that grab the reader's attention. The topics range from birds origins, their physical show more attributes, their habits and development as well as tips on attracting and watching birds. If you could only have two books on birds, I recommend this one be one of them. (The other would of course be Roger Tory Peterson’s A Field Guide to Birds) show less
Meie planeedil elab 100 miljardit lindu.

Teie show more ette kerkivad majesteetlikud jahti pidavad kotkad ja imelisi tantse tantsivad Aafrika kured, õhuookeanide isandad kondorid ja lennuvõimetud kiivid, imetillukesed kimalaskoolibrid ja hiiglaslikud jaanalinnud. show less
