Ultimate Guide to Google AdWords: How to Access 100 Million People in 10 Minutes (Ultimate Series) by Perry Marshall
An excellent introduction to Google Ads (formerly known as "Adwords"). I enjoyed how the authors addresses fundamentals like market research for keywords and choosing a niche. There is also great advice on writing ads. I've turned the corners on more than a dozen pages on the book to flag places where I want to go back and learn more. The supplemental material - available through Perry Marshall's website - is outstanding. These supplemental material are like receiving an online course for show more free with the book. I also highly recommend "80/20 Sales and Marketing" by Perry Marshall.
Two small drawbacks for the book. First, it is dated in some of the details on the platform (the book is several years old) so the screenshots, options and look of the platform are now quite different than what you see in the book. I understand that the authors are planning a new edition in 2020 so that will be exciting to see. The other drawback: I would have liked to see more in-depth explanations of campaigns showing how they were optimized over time. There are some examples where the authors state something like "he optimized his results over 3 months and got these amazing results." That's an intriguing but it was frustrating not to see the supporting details. show less

Really interesting, if a bit cheesy at times. Here are the main takeaways. (1) “randomness” and “Goddidit” are equally unsatisfactory answers as both have no deeper explanatory mechanisms. (2) Evolution is much more powerful than either side wants to admit.
One really interesting claim is that the more sophisticated natural evolutionary mechanisms are found to be, the more difficult the origin of life question becomes.
It’s a good intro book to an under-discussed topic. However, I show more wouldn’t appeal to it as authoritative or scholarly. Mull the ideas over and dig into the footnotes.

This book summarized information I've seen elsewhere, and also added to it. I knew about the 80/20 principle for some time, but never thought to extend it out. I will say here that I got this book on the 1 cent sale on Facebook. Part of the book is sales for his other products. (Why else would he give the book away for 1 cent?) I wasn't too shocked by this. I've seen it elsewhere. He does give some good information, though, even if you don't plan to buy any more services. One interesting bit show more is to fire your underperforming clients. Depending on who the client is, that can be dicey. Usually, the one exception many business owners will make is for family members. It's cheaper to keep them on and keep peace in the family than it is to fire them and cause more problems. Overall, a good book. show less
