This is the first volume of the 1979 edition of the Women's Day Encyclopedia of Cookery. "Cookery" isn't really a term you here used often these days, is it? This volume covers everything from Abalone to Avocado, with special sections such as American Cookery (Which Includes "Chinese Sweet-and-Sour Pork" for some reason), and Apple Cookbook (Because there's so much you can do with apples, although not enough to merit calling it Cookery). A nice throwback to a time when looking up random show more recipes online wasn't an option. show less
This volume of the Woman's Day Encyclopedia of Cookery covers topics from Cookie to Demitasse, the latter of which I thought was an alien species from Deep Space Nine). Also included: Corn, Cranberries, Crepes, both Czechoslovakian and Danish Cookery, and my personal favorite, Crappie (giggle). Plus fifty menus at the end if you need help figuring out what to serve with what.
This was my go-to cookbook for 30 years. It still serves me well, but now it shares the shelf with The Joy of Cooking. I could live on the Italian Sausage & Rice Casserole (Vol. 10, p. 1636 in my edition); and Mae's Date Cookies (Vol. 3, p. 476) are my all-time favorite. My only complaint is that someone (who apparently has never used a book before) put the page numbers on the inside corners next to the binding. Why, why why?
The second volume in the Woman's Day Encyclopedia of Cooking, this one has everything from Baba and Bacon to Brains and Brazil Nuts. There's also a thirty-page section devoted entirely to Beef, and a smaller section dedicated to Barbeque. What can I say, you had me at Scrambled Eggs and Brains.
