Dolphin Tale by Gabrielle Long is based on a true story and was then turned into a movie. This is the story of a young, injured dolphin who ends up losing her tale. With the help of veterinarians, a prosthetic expert, and friends/caregivers Winter (the dolphin) was rehabilitated to swim as normally as possible. As Winter adapted to her new tail the main character Sawyer and his family helped play a key role in her rehabilitation. As a child this book and movie riled my world. I had posters everywhere and rewatched the movie on an almost daily occurrence. I was lucky enough to travel all the way to Clearwater Florida to see Winter the dolphin before she sadly passed away in November 2021. This is a very inspiring story filled with hope. It has an uplifting and positive theme that young adults can relate to. I loved that it included an 8 page full color insert with photos from the movie. An easy read about the relationships between humans and animals. Highly recommend for young readers looking for a short chapter book.
