I remember getting this book when I was in the second grade. It details the early life of a woolly mammoth, from making a migration to finding a mate. Flipping through the book after I repurchased it (who knows where my original copy went), I still admired the illustrations.
Parents of younger children: there is a scene of violence with blood on a mammoth's tusks. Also, the protagonist mammoth gets in a scuffle towards the end of the book and is wounded, although not seriously.
