Little Tiger is new to what we teachers call “doing school”: taking turns, sharing, waiting patiently, keeping your hands to yourself, treating others with kindness. A wise teacher instructs Little Tiger on how to “do school,” which is the only way to have friends. It might sound twee, but Carol Roth’s picture book is a gem, thanks to her deft prose and charming illustrations.

Good book for repetition/rhyme patterns. Illustrations are humorous and engaging. Simple overall, but still enjoyable.

Five little ducklings are taking their first big adventure by going to school for the first time. Most of them are very excited but one little duckling is not quite sure about leaving mama duck and going to school.
I read this myself and found it adorable, and then read it to my now 6-year-old son who is now in Grade 1 but starting a new school. He loved the vibrant pictures, the way it was written, and most importantly the story itself. I think he could relate to it as he is ok leaving me show more but was not sure about starting a new school.
I really think this is a wonderful book for parents to read to/with their children as they start going to school whether it is elementary school or preschool. The story is very uplifting and positive.
Highly recommended.
My only regret is that I had been trying to read the book through Netgalley and for some reason the format was incorrect so I had to wait until I could find a copy to read. I am so glad that I did find it as it is a book that every parent should read to their child. show less

Award winning author Carol Roth and illustrator Sean Julian have teamed up again to present their next ducky treat.
After Five Little Ducklings go to Bed the five cute siblings now waddle their way to school.
But first there are some tears as they will surely miss their Mother. Mama Duck knows how to encourage her little ones: "Even though we'll be apart. We'll still be in each other's heart."
Persuaded, the wee ducklings give school a try and it turns out show more to be a lot of fun and they make new friends, too.
The heartfelt and highly enjoyable rhyming story is enhanced by some of the most beautifully animated illustrations I've come across in a while. I love pictures with lots of tiny things to discover in the background and here they are aplenty. The class teacher (a crane) is just superb to look at.
There's no doubt, Five Little Ducks Go to School, is a book children will love and will certainly read more than once.
At the same time, the book brings the message across, that going to school is worth a try as it might turn out much better than expected and is therefore a sensible and helpful read for all soon to be schoolkids.
