Return to the House of Usher
Robert Poe

It was almost predestined to be hokey, but actually wasn’t bad. Poe is a descendant of Edgar Allen, and cashing in on the fame. Told in the first person, as a narrative. He’s inherited E.A.’s papers – writings never seen by the public – and his old college friend Roderick Usher is a descendant of the original Roderick, and of course he also has a sister named Madeleine. The “House” is there, although now it’s an asylum / show more hospital of sorts. Rumor has it that the dead are still walking around, Madeleine dies, and Roderick’s going bonkers.

It was enjoyable enough, though the narrator is a little dull and pretentious. Bought another one at the same time – “The Black Cat”, so we’ll see how that one fares.
