I was very happy to discover this book was worth the cost. I enjoyed reading it and I really liked looking at all the pictures of turned bowls from different artists. Lots of great ideas and good solid advice. I got some great design ideas I plan to try out. I found the book inspiring and it's always nice when a leading expert shares your views on technique. He really focuses on design and discounts ( a little harshly in my opinion) fancy grain patterns. I am considering purchasing one or show more two of his other books to add to my collection. show less
When I first started turning, I got this book out of the library & about wore it out. It is a very good primer for woodturning. It concentrates on the basics for both spindle & bowl, but seasoned wood only. He uses minimal tools, almost enough pictures & good, short description of methods. If you go through this book step by step a few times, you will have a good basic understanding of turning.
Mind expanding! I am just a beginner send I learned so much from this book. Some things I have already started applying and many to aspire to.
