Reviews
A very useful book, in that the author provides a cogent summary of 19th and 20th century anti-semitic trends, and how they developed (and metastasized). Less interesting is a psychological discussion of how anti-semitism can evolve, though this is largely because I don't have a deep background in psychology. The book was apparently written in November, 1944 (it was published in 1945), shortly before some of the major horrors of the Holocaust were revealed. As it is, Parkes is prescient in show more discussing how the "Jewish National Home," later Israel, would become a focus of post-war discussion. Alas, this book is still somewhat timely. show less
The Conflict of the Church and the Synagogue: A Study in the Origins of Antisemitism by James Parkes
If you want to understand the roots of antisemitsm, this book is a must. Parkes explains the history of the Nazarene movement, how it was hijacked by Paul/Romans/Helenists to attrack the non-Jewish world, how the original Jewish Nazarenes were faithful to Torah, only differing in their belief as to who the Messiah was (only a man, not a g-d), and how the Church has tried to wipe out Judaism because it still lives as a constant reminder of Christianty's false conclusions regarding Messiah, show more the eternity of Torah, the eternal covenant with Israel, and just about everything in the Tanach. show less
Excellent history of the geographic area know as Palestine
