This is a role-playing game system (table-top, in-person) which originated in the original Champions superhero role-playing game developed by Aaron Alltson (and others) in the 80's, which has evolved over time into a very flexible system suitable for almost any setting or era you might want to run a role-playing game in. The company has published numerous supplements, but the game-master is encouraged to develop his/her own worlds and interpretations. The rule system is extremely thorough show more and extremely flexible, which is fine for the more detail-oriented player, but could be off-putting for some players. Fortunately, most of the required math shows up in character creation and the "Hero Creator" software also available can make that process much, much easier. I highly recommend this gaming system. The book itself is well laid out, with an actually useful index and many usable examples for character construction, game play, campaign design and so forth. show less
This book would be great if someone had come back and wrote an errata to reconcile the rule differences between the write ups of the creatures as they appear in the book under the 5th Edition rules and the way they would need to be rewritten for proper game play under the revised 5th Edition rules published two years later. Some of the creatures possess attacks, powers, and power modifiers that no longer exist or do not function the same way under the much more manageable revised rules. This show more leaves you flipping back and forth between the two rule books creating your own mini-bestiary for the revised rules anyway. show less
