The premise of this book is a good idea and simple: Scripture readings exploring the mystery of Christmas, from both Old and New Testaments. It makes for good reading throughout the Christmas season. The only problem is that I didn't like the translations used; many of the readings are taken from highly dynamic, casual translations that are jarring and distracting if one is used to something a little more literal. I'd like to see an edition of this book that draws all the readings from the show more NSRV, for example. show less
There are so many stories from the Bible that we all have heard many times but there are others not as well known. Authors Christopher D. Hudson and Stan Campbell have corrected this by choosing seventy-five stories from both the Old and New Testaments that they consider to be the most important. Each of these entries include scripture, The Essential Story and The Essential Truth about their selection. The first story is from Genesis 1 and each one after is in chronological order so by the show more time you have finished this book, you have been given a walk through the Bible.
The Most Important Stories of the Bible is easy to understand and it reinforces the fact that all of the stories found in scripture actually contribute to the One story that is known as The Holy Bible. Although this is a not a comprehensive study of Bible scripture, it offers enough information to pique your interest. Reading this book prompted me to go back to the true source and I consider it an excellent resource for my devotion time.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher but a positive review was not required. These are my honest thoughts. show less

3-Minute Devotions to Laugh and Reflect: Lighten Your Load and Brighten Your Day by Christopher D. Hudson
This book is such a delight, and it is a perfect addition to your devotion time! Authors Christopher D. Hudson and Stan Campbell combine their talents to offer readers ninety thought-provoking devotions, and illustrator Dennis Fletcher adds hilarious cartoons to emphasize their thoughts. I found myself laughing out loud as I marveled at the 'spot-on' illustrations that add the crowning touch to the scriptures being discussed by the authors.
Proverbs 17:22 tells us that "A cheerful heart is show more good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones". 3-Minute Devotions to Laugh and Reflect is truly a book that will 'lighten your load and brighten your day', and it's a terrific resource!
I received a copy from Bethany House Publishers. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts. show less

This devotional is powerful and so meaningful to your every day walk with the Lord. It's like a God's Promises book in that you can turn to the power of each name of God like the power of each promise of God and lean on it for support and encouragement.
