This page contains a reproduction of a picture which in the background of the image appears to show a game of football being played by some Indigenous Australians. The image by Gustave Mutzel, dates from 1862, and was based on William Blandowski’s observations from his 1856-1857 expedition to the lower Murray and Darling River regions. Published in Germany in 1862 with the title, Australien in 142 photographischen Abbildungen nach zehnjährigen Erfahrungen. It was published in English for show more the first time in 2010 by the Aboriginal Studies Press. The 1862 German edition has been digitised by the Staatbibliotek zu Berlin (State Library of Berlin), and is Plate 41, page 33, Fotografen section.
