I thought this was going to be a tongue in cheeck "mr Blandings Builds his Dream House" type of book, but while it was written with much humor, it really is a guide to buying a country home. It was interesting to me because the locale is the area just outside of New York, and is familiar to me. THe guide was written in 1935, and is much less dated than you might think. If you ignore any discussion of actual costs, most of the information is very sound. There is even a discussion of mortgages show more and affordability - very timely. Since you can read the book for free thru project Gutenberg, I would recommend this book to anyone buying a home, even if it isn't a country/second home. show less
