Book 15 - Strange Times - Reading in Lockdown -
Book 15 - J. John and Mark Stibbe - A Bucket of Surprises
An amusing A - Z of witticisms, anecdotes, proverbs and poignant tales
Discovered that I had used one of these tales when I asked to lead a church Christmas morning service many moons ago.
Some of the tales are slightly dated now but it amused me and had me both smiling and thinking about family.
One of the stories talks about the golfer Greg Norman and Nick Faldo at the end of the Open and show more about never getting a real proper manly hug until Faldo hugs him - it left Norman in bits - the moral of the story ?
Give hugs, hug family, hug friends and most importantly hug as if you mean it - social distancing rules allowing of course show less

Timeless commandments. Clear rules for living. Laws that will transform your life.
Encounter the 10 commandments that are as relevant now as the day they were given. Reclaim God's vision for your life through the power of TEN.
Easy to read. Very well written and explained.

NCLA Review - In TEN: Laws of Love Set in Stone, J. John explains and illustrates how the commandments given to Moses on stone tablets are relevant to modern life. In a unique approach, John starts with the tenth commandment and works his way in reverse order to the first, which, in his words, “. . . seems to me to be the glowing heart of the law, like some fiery star in the center of a planetary system.” The study guide located at the end provides questions on several levels and would show more allow a discussion leader to choose to fit the group. What the author does not do is take on the big issues of the sixth commandment: war, capital punishment, and abortion. He does mention each one; but if the reader is looking for a source with any substance on these issues, this is not it. Rating: 2 —AMB show less
This book is dreadful. Although it has the occasional useful story, it is mostly filled with painfully trite comments and a dozens of off-colour jokes.
Many of those jokes I would be embarassed to tell friends, much less to tell a congregation from the pulpit!
And what do you do with nasty lines like "Never have anything 'your way'; have everything 'Yahweh'"? Sigh.
