A well-researched book and readable on early female Quakers, and the attitudes to them. It sets them in the historical and religious context, and brings out the leading role they played in the development of Quakerism and the struggles they faced with some more prejudiced male Quakers. Previous Convictions is a very personal look at the late 20th century Religious Society of Friends. It comments on the effects of increased liberalism, individualism and the "culture of silence" when trying to consider the transmission of Quaker faith and values. The model of the family of faith, the roles of teacher and prophet and the needs of young people are looked at in this book.
