A very readable collection of essays, short stories, poetry and other miscellanea culled from the pages of The Saturday Review of Literature over the 10 year period from 1924-1934. A minor defect of the book is that the essays are undated, so no point of reference historically can be made, especially regarding the period of the Great Depression. I was surprised, however, to see how relevant many of the essays still are today. I would recommend the collection especially to readers interested show more in early 20th century American literature as there are essays and other writings from authors such as Stephen Vincent Benet and his brother William Rose Benet, Edith Wharton, Willa Cather, Julian Hawthorne and others as well as book reviews of books popular at the time. show less
Not a collection but a discussion of short stories from the Middle Ages to Kipling
