- A native Sooner, romance author Debra S. Cowan was born in Idabel, Oklahoma, and later moved to the Tulsa area. Like many writers, Debra made up stories in her head as a child. Her B.A. in English was obtained with the intention of following family tradition and becoming a school teacher, but after she wrote her first novel, there was no looking back.
An avid history buff, Debra enjoys traveling. She has visited places as diverse as Europe and Honduras, where she and her husband served as part of a medical mission team. Debra still lives in Oklahoma with her husband.
She is a member of Romance Writers of America and is the Past President of Oklahoma Romance Writers of America. Her writing has been called "fast-paced", "vivid", "emotionally satisfying", and distinguished by "strong, compelling characters". Romantic Times Magazine says, "Her stories have the charm, tenderness and sensuality that captivate and enchant." Affaire de Coeur predicts, "Cowan shows the beautiful promise of a rising star." And The Literary Times urges, "Treat yourself to a novel by Debra Cowan. You'll be glad you did." - Nationality

This is book three in the Whirlwind Series (though of course, it could stand alone--but why when there are two other good books to read beforehand) and the best one so far! I loved it from the get go, and I mean the very get go--Debra Cowan's dedication put a big smile on my face right off the bat. If you read the first two books you'll be pleased to know that in "Whirlwind Groom", Davis Lee finally gets his chance at love with a girl named Josie. Josie has come to secretly avenge the death show more of her loved ones and Davis Lee, the sheriff, has strong suspicions about her motives for coming to Whirlwind. Davis Lee saves Josie a couple times (ya gotta love a hero) and they both fight their feelings for each other because it's getting in the way of what they want to do. The nicest part of the story is that fighting their feelings has actual basis in this book. So many times in other romance novels the characters are fighting their attraction for no real reason at all and it becomes frustrating. This is not the case here...both Davis Lee and Josie have very valid reasons for trying to keep clear of each other...but of course, that's impossible. My favorite part of the book is the flirting. Yes people, a man and women are actually flirting here, wooho! I can never understand in other books how people can fall in love but hardly even look at each other beforehand.
This story not only contains an interesting plot, but very "real" characters--I love that!
I was sad to see this story come to an end...but the great news is that there are still two more books in the series to go! show less

This was my first Debra Cowan book and I wasn't disappointed! This was a romance with a twist as Susannah shows up to Whirlwind pregnant and desperate with no option but to stay. She thinks Riley has agreed to marry her via her brother's intervention, but to her shock, Riley knows nothing about it or wants anything to do with it. He can't however, turn his back on his best friend's sister. This was an interesting change from the typical romance where the women just end up pregnant-this one show more started that way.
I'm so excited that this is a series story--I love when a good book has a few follow ups! show less

Rancher Russ Baldwin is co-owner of the soon to be opened Fontaine hotel in Whirlwind, Texas. His partner arrives in town (pretty Lydia Kent) from Mississippi. Lydia is planning to secretly use part of the hotel for abused women. (She is part of an underground network trying to save battered women who are escaping from abusive situations, to help them begin new lives.) She doesn’t want Russ to know about this (the women are put in a secret room) but he seems to be getting suspicious of her show more activities at night. As time goes by, they become attracted to each other. Should Lydia tell Russ about her secret?
I really enjoyed this book. Lydia was a good heroine. She was a kind, strong minded, and practical woman, and I liked how she was trying to help the battered women. (Especially since her sister died at the hands of her abusive husband.) I also liked the hero Russ. There was a sweet secondary romance between Lydia’s maid Naomi and the town blacksmith, Ef, which I enjoyed. Lydia and Russ made a good couple and I liked meeting the townspeople of Whirlwind. I also liked the western, hotel setting.

"Whirlwind Baby" had me right off the bat with sweet baby Molly, good-hearted Emma and the sexily shy Jake Ross. I always enjoy the way Debra Cowan creates "real" characters that you really feel like you know, and like. Her stories always contain a little twist that separate them from the "run of the mill romances".
I loved how Jake courted Emma when he finally let his feelings come through, he was shy, gentle, but all man at the same time. My heart was always aching for poor Emma who just show more wanted to be a part of a family and stay with her sister, but was torn by wanting to keep Molly and Jake safe. The thought of her leaving them almost brought me to tears.
I agree with the previous poster about the thefts seeming to have no real bearing on the story. It really felt like the discovery of the thief was going to give you answers to something but it appeared pointless as far as the plot is concerned. I'm hoping maybe they are tied in with the next book in the series?
I really recommend reading this book within the series...though I'm sure it would be enjoyable on it's own, there are so many more layers to it when you "know" the characters from the previous books. I love the author keeps us in touch with them.
Speaking of keeping in touch, on to the next book, "Whirlwind Secrets"! show less
