This book looks to be part of a series of informational books, with real photographs. This book had no premise within our current unit, but I thought they might enjoy it. They did in the beginning, but the "dictionary" manner of the book did not hold their attention. I decided to finish the book without following up with a center-time activity. Instead, I put it into the library center bucket, open for any child who is interested to look at. A few children demonstrated interest, but not very show more many. This book is well-written, but would be more useful as a resource book for an older child doing a research project in K or 1st grade. show less
I like Music: What can I be? , written by Muriel L. Dubois, is an informational text that describes the various types of careers that musicians may have. The careers discussed throughout this book include: Composer, professional musician, music teacher, instrument maker, disc jokey, conductor, and sound engineer. I like Music: What can I be? also discusses how individuals can prepare to work with music, including: learning how to read and play musical instruments, joining a band, or show more listening to various genres of music.

Muriel L. Dubois does an excellent job of explaining the many career paths associated with music, while providing visual aids to help facilitate the reader’s understanding. I like Music: What can I be? contains a “Words to Know” section, which defines the vocabulary words presented throughout the text. The book also contains an index, which lists each vocabulary word presented throughout the text, along with its corresponding page number.

This book shows many different people that works with music. It has many occupations pertaining to music, some that I didn't know were apart of music. This can help children realize what they would want to be if they are interested in music.
A biography of the second president of the United States, covering his childhood, his marriage to Abigail Smith, and his role in creating the United States government. This would a be a great introduction to John Adams and his life for younger children.
