I read this simply because I respect the fact that the man has memorized over 10,000 verses of scripture. I appreciate and agree with his direction in preaching that it should be more Bible and less heart tugging stories of grandma's and kitty cats. We have the promise that God's Word will accomplish all the things God promises it will, we dont have that promise concerning our words. We can impact emotions temporally, God's word can impact lives and souls eternally. I would suggest this is show more an important book for all preachers to read and consider. If you are looking for a book on the technical side of sermon preparation then this is not the best out there but there is useful information throughout and he addresses the heart and direction of the pastor more than the outline. It also contains a memorization supplement that is helpful. It is a card system based on topical grouping. show less
(WCBC) Always Rejoicing (A Verse by Verse Study of the Book of Philippians) Student Edition by John Goetsch
Philippians presents one of the Bible's greatest studies on faithful, joyful Christian living. Verse by verse you will rediscover God's plan for growing, transforming, and using your life in the context of His ever-present joy.
Each devotion in this book is written to encourage you that revival is still possible today. Each daily reading describes an event or individual from the past that God has used to bring revival. It is an on-this-day book, with most readings featuring a historic event that took place on the same day you will read it, some years prior.
Dr. Paul Chappell and Dr. John Goetsch sound a clear warning to pastors and everywhere. This book helps understand and avoid Post-Modernism and the Seeker-Sensitive Church Movement.
