I am enjoying the gentleness of this series and like that the messages are fairly well woven into the storylines rather than being overtly preachy. It does seem though like the cast of characters is getting rather large (and this is only book 3) and that each author (this series has different authors writing the books) feels compelled to mention many secondary characters who were introduced in previous books. Sometimes it gets hard to remember who is who.
I am glad to see that Abby and Mary show more are continuing to make sure they connect with each other and don't let issues fester. show less

A friend (ACC) has sent me a number of books from this series--most recently this one and one other from the series. I find it a comforting series. The Stanton family has a gentleness that is refreshing to behold.
In this book, Ellen Stanton discovers a baby left at the Senior Center.
I suspected what changed Ellen Stanton's mood each year before it was revealed. I also suspected who Moses's mother was before it was revealed. I also suspected how the bird sightings would turn out.
It was show more nice to learn more about Terza Choi after reading about her in so many of the series novels. show less

I really liked this book in the series, which usually deals with wild birds but this one revolved around a pet parrot and the extended family of the rich lady that owned the parrot. Many things were going on here, and yes a prodigal son was also part of this. The parrot was actually taken by the prodigal but then almost everyone in the family has their hands on the parrot and even some of the inhabitants of Sparrow Island. There was a good bit of Abby and Mary and their family in this book, show more but we really didn't see any of Hugo, a character that I have always liked. Still, this was a very good enjoyable book with a good story line. show less
Guidepost produces many different sets of series of books for Christian readers, and this is one that was gifted to me. Sometimes as a reader you just need a fun, light reading type of book and thats what these are. Different series' and different authors for each book!
THIS one in particular, SECRETS OF MARYS BOOKSHOP,involves two of my loves......life on Cape Cod Mass., and a main character who owns a bookstore. In my opinion you just can't go wrong!
