Good book with lots of action. Hunter had fallen hard for Erin two years ago, but with his job he couldn't risk having a family. When he found out she was pregnant he worked to keep an eye on her and his son to make sure they were safe. When he discovers that they are the focus of a terrorist plot he knows he has to save them. Unfortunately Erin wants nothing to do with the man who lied to her.

I liked Hunter a lot. He tried very hard to do the right thing and keep Erin and his son safe. He show more felt terribly guilty about the lies he had told her but he didn't want to risk her becoming a hostage because of him. I liked the way that he really appreciated her intelligence and didn't consider her weird or anything like that. During that week they spent together he also learned about the project she was working on. He tried to convince her that it was dangerous for her but she laughed him off. Two years later that project put her in the crosshairs. When he went to her to tell her the danger she didn't believe him until they were attacked. I loved the way that he was able to think on the run and come up with plans to get them away. He was frustrated by the way that they bad guys always seemed to know exactly where they were. He was also still in love with Erin and still determined to get her and Brandon to safety and then disappear again. I loved the way that being with Brandon even for just a little while meant so much to him. I could really see the depth of his emotions even as he tried to hide them.

Erin was a terrific mother and a brilliant scientist. Because of her intelligence she had spent most of her life in an academic world and had little to no social knowledge. Her encounter with Hunter gave her a taste of what she thought was a normal life until he disappeared. When he showed up again with a wild story about her being in danger she didn't buy it - until they were attacked and had to go on the run. She still didn't believe that it was her medical research that had put her in danger. I thought that for such an intelligent woman she was pretty stupid for not realizing the harm that her work could do in the wrong hands. As the days went on she began to see just what Hunter had been trying to tell her. She also realized that she was still in love with him and she wanted to do everything she could to be able to stay with him and have a future together. The identity of the bad guy was a bit of a twist. It was one of the two people I thought it might be but the reason behind it was a surprise.

What happens in our lives often defines us. Whether is it disastrous, or momentous, it gives us a platform to launch the person we want to see. Or we allow ourselves to dwell on the negatives and never really realize who we have become.

In Her Sights by Robin Perini, is a story of strength of character. Jasmine Parker is a SWAT sharpshooter. One of the few females in this line, she is both bold and steady, show more known as one of the best in the business. There are those in the department who do not agree with the assignment, and are willing to do what it takes to bring her down. It does not help that Jasmine (Jazz) has a secret that is unknown to those she works with. A secret from her past that has the ability to destroy the life she has spent so much time to build. Unable to share her secret with anyone, she even turned away the one man in her life she truly loved.

Luke Montgomery is an ex-Army Ranger, who has now become an investigative reporter. Jazz’s life begins to fall apart when she is credited with saving the governor’s daughter, and Luke splashes her face and the story across the news. Unknowingly he has brought back someone in Jazz’s background that seems to be seeking vengeance. As she works to maintain her distance and fight her feelings for Luke, she struggles to find the answers as those who once relied on her, now begin to turn their back. As bodies begin piling up, can Jazz save herself and her hard fought career? Can she learn to trust Luke with her secrets or will his expose destroy her in this torrid house of cards? When Luke’s brother is injured in a SWAT gone bad, he will stop at nothing to save his family, even at the expense of the woman he loves.

Perini has given us a strong and likable female lead. Stubborn and bold she has been driven by a secret from her youth. Building and defining her abilities, she becomes one of the best at what she does. But the job does not harden her, she still maintains her feelings and flaws, and she is still hurt easily by the things that occur around her. Struggling to find closeness with her team, she is still an unknown and is sometimes rebuffed. When the team turns on her after the injury of a fellow officer, she continues to try and close that gap; they are some of the only family she has.

Luke is a strong and charismatic character. There is a hurt he is trying to overcome after one of his articles created an unexpected death of a friend. He has not been able to get Jazz out of his system and the heat between them is palpable. Trying to find why Jazz is being targeted both by the department, and a killer, he finds himself deep in the middle of a secret he does not know. The more he tries to find the further Jazz pulls away.

Perini has giving us a mix of thriller and romance, one that is hard to put down. Her protagonist is dark and carries a taint of anger and betrayal to the core. The story is well written, and the pace is excellent. The knowledge of the author on both guns and shooting is well defined and creates realism to the piece.

I would recommend this book to both those that enjoy thrillers, as well as the romance buffs. There is strength in both areas of the work that plays together, pulling you into the story. This would be a great book for a reading group, it brings in police procedure, SWAT, romance and how people change and grow as they determine their own fate in life.

This book was received as an ARC. All opinions are my own based off my reading and understanding of the material.

Exciting book. It opens with Rafe as part of a rescue mission that saves Sierra from a kidnapping and explosion. We immediately see that there is chemistry between the two. Rafe desperately tries to resist, but ends up giving in a spending a hot night with her, before his guilty feelings send him running.

Two months later, Sierra is missing again. Rafe gets a panicked call from his best friend, Noah, who is also Sierra's brother. Noah asks Rafe to find her, which he does pretty quickly, only show more to discover that she's been injured. She and her best friend and her friend's daughter had been kidnapped, and though Sierra escaped, her friend did not. Sierra is determined to find and save her friend. She's not too happy to see him, especially after his disappearing act, but realizes that she can use his help.

I liked Sierra. She is a smart, determined and capable of much more than some others believe. She had been working as a computer specialist for the same covert group that her brother and Rafe work for, until she was suspended after her last kidnapping. Though she's always been behind the scenes in previous investigations, she refuses to step back from this one. I loved her insistence on being involved. I also liked her belief in her friend's innocence, even in the face of evidence to the contrary.

I also liked Rafe. He is strong and protective. He has been attracted to Sierra for a long time, but there's the old "bro code" obstacle of not getting involved with your best friend's sister. He gave in to her advances two months ago, but has avoided her ever since. He also feels that he is not good enough for her. He lost someone close to him and blames himself. He wants to keep her safe, but also has to admit that he can't find her friend without her.

I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow as they worked together. Sierra knows how she feels, and though cautious about risking her heart again, she wants the chance. The scenes at the rodeo were great, especially her reaction to his first ride. I loved seeing her help Rafe realize that he wants a home and family of his own. The ending was fantastic, with a bit of a twist to the big moment.

The suspense of the story was really good. With Sierra's escape from the kidnapper, it freed her to find out why they had been taken and who was behind it. Though she isn't usually a field operative, I loved seeing her make the most of the opportunities they were given. There were some very scary attempts on their lives, each one getting more intense. The closer they got to the end, the more convoluted the problem seemed. The final confrontation was really intense, with an unexpected twist to it. The secret wasn't anything like what I expected either.

This book started with a bang (literally) and just kept going from there. Laurel was visiting her sister so she could watch her youngest niece while the rest of the family went to the school Christmas program. Laurel was horrified when her sister's car exploded, killing the whole family. Her sister lived long enough to tell Laurel to find Garrett Galloway and go to him for protection.

Garrett has been living and working under an assumed name for months. His family was also killed by a car show more bomb, and he was accused of treason. Garrett's friend and mentor, who is also Laurel's father, has been working to discover who set Garrett up. Garrett wasn't happy to have Laurel and Molly show up, because it meant that his cover was blown and the investigation into the identity of the real traitor has been compromised. Garrett can't refuse to help them, but he's worried that he won't be able to protect them any better than he did his own family. When they are attacked soon after they arrived, he takes them on the run to his hideaway. Garrett is attracted to Laurel, but with the accusation of treason hanging over his head he sees no possibility of a future for them.

Laurel and her sister had been raised by their father to be independent and not have to depend on anyone but themselves. She has a hard time at first trusting Garrett but knows she needs him to keep her and Molly safe. When she finds out who he really is, it takes her a little while to realize that she really can trust him. That trust is reinforced when she sees how good he is with Molly. In spite of the danger they are in, Laurel finds herself very attracted to Garrett, but can't think of the future until they are out of danger.

The mystery of the story was gripping from the very beginning. The idea of a traitor is the higher levels of the government is scary and the author made it seem very plausible. Laurel and Garrett were determined to find out who it is. They did everything they could to get away, but it always seemed like they were just one step ahead of the guys who were out to kill them. I loved seeing them work together, each with their strengths, to discover who it was. There were times when it was nearly impossible to tell who were the good guys. They were pretty much on their own since they didn't know who they could trust. They did end up getting some assistance from Daniel and Raven (The Cradle Conspiracy) as they got closer to unmasking the villain. I did start to suspect who the traitor was by the end, but the journey there was quite exciting. The final confrontation was very intense, and I couldn't read fast enough to find out how it turned out.
