Enjoyable read by Robyn Donald about heroine (Emma Saunders) who gets a temporary job as a nanny to two dogs (Lucky and Babe). Along the way she meets the hero (Kane Talbot) and realizes she broke up his half-sister (Diane) and her father’s romance a few years ago when Emma was a teenager. (I didn’t really care for that subplot. I didn’t like the fact that Emma’s father was cheating on Emma’s sick and dying mother. He seemed like a real loser. And his shrewish lover Diane was just show more as bad, and she had the nerve to blame Emma!) Other than that, I really enjoyed the story. I liked the main couple, especially Emma. And I liked how the dogs were featured prominently in the story. show less
Wow. This one was of the crazy old skool genre. Heroine is forced to return to the outback station where she grew up and fell in love with hero. They had an affair when she was 17 and he was 24. But of course she is framed for a theft and he kicks her out. He is insanely jealous (there was a lying OM too) and he still is after all these six years she's been gone. My biggest comment is that he continuely hurt her physically, grinding her bones together and such. I mean over and over. When she show more got scalded and he rushed her to the sink to doctor her burn I felt like calling him a hypocrit. Yeah it all worked out in the end but I felt like he would always be one flirtatious glance away from being a wife beater. Generally I love the crazy old skool but not when he hurts her on purpose over and over. show less
Pretty crazy old school. Maybe I should give it more stars just for that. He kidnaps her and threatens to rape her in revenge for her brother making off with his fiance. Instead he marries her so that the revenge will just go on and on. Then he proceeds to treat her like crap. He was totally domineering sneering and lord of the manor. He kept telling her that she was such a complaining child and couldn't she find something to do? A good spanish wife would be happy. And I'm thinking: she's on show more an island. She's not allowed to go to the village/town even to buy some craft supplies. Her sister in law runs the house. She can't read spanish. What the hell exactly does he expect her to do with her time? That always bothers me in HPs that the women are expected to be happy just sitting around but it was pretty extreme here. He said right out that he controlled her every thought and action. I think that even though I know it's fiction and what's more it's an old Harley, it still got too much on my feminist bone and I don't even have a very well developed one. ;-) She doesn't stand up to him very well just eventually decides to take whatever crumbs he offers.
He blows hot and cold and he does force her once or twice but it's all explained in the end as him just loving her so much. So all is forgiven. show less

Hard book to rate. The heroine was very different for an HP girl. Hero kept hurting her emotionally and she kept coming back. Not in a ninny doormat way but in a strong determined way. She loved him and felt like he was worth the effort if she could just break through to him. She was really a lovely character. The hero was much harder to get a handle on. I kept thinking that he had some sort of revenge plot percolating in his mind which was all going to come out later but no. He was in love show more with his ex wife who was another model who looked very similar to the heroine. He just wanted to bang her on that account. His turn around at the end was pretty unbelievable. Since the author mostly failed at letting us guess what was going on in the hero's mind and when we did find out it was sort of like 'yeah, right' I didn't really care for him or buy his love for the heroine. show less
