Short biography
[excerpted from Modern Knives in Combat]
Carl Schulze, a photo journalist specializing in military subjects and well known within specialist circles, became interested in military topics at an early age. As a teenager, he spent his free time photographing the last major NATO exercises in the 1980s.

Between 1986 and 1994 Carl then served as a soldier in the Bundeswehr. At the beginning of the 1990s he began publishing his photos in military magazines, and his first article was published in the late summer of 1990.

Since leaving the Bundeswehr, Carl has worked primarily as a photo journalist. He regularly travels to the crisis and war zones of the world. Carl is also involved in military themes in his spare time. His hobbies include military history and reenactment.
