Title is from a Marianne Moore poem titled, simply, *Poetry,* and included in the book: "imaginary gardens with real toads in them."
Terrific idea I've seen done only once before, and that collection I did not care for. This is very eclectic, with everything from nursery rhymes to Poe's *The Raven* and art from Mary Cassatt to The Far Side by Gary Larson, from historical photos to Alexander Calder. All stands on its own; only the poems get a brief introduction, in a very general sense, in the show more beginning.
Not all to my taste, not all seem like they fit or are suitable. But I dunno, maybe 3.5 stars? If it's avl. to you, explore it for yourself. show less

I really enjoyed the connection between art and poetry, although art encompasses poetry. Each page brought you a new part in the circus and a new piece of art to admire. I think the book was well done and the art really made it work well. I think this book would be good for students learning poetry and artists.
This is a beautifully done book. Since I am not one to read much poetry, the art coupled with the poems makes this attractive and easier to contemplate what the poem is about. The variety of poets is nice. Some of the art I simply loved. The author chose works that truly reflected the written word. This is a book that I certainly wouldn’t mind owning and would appreciate over time.
Circus shows what a circus is all about. It shows everything that goes on at a circus. The art is very colorful and was well done. It shows how the characters get ready for the show. It also shows the difficulties some of them may have.
