Monstrous Adversary : the Life of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford by Alan H. Nelson
A scholarly life of an Elizabethan aristocrat who was a pioneering secular poet but would be forgotten today had he not become a favorite, albeit ludicrous, candidate for the position of "alternative Shakespeare". Dr. Nelson's study is thorough to the point of being somewhat heavy going in places. My review is at http://stromata.tripod.com/id452.htm
