Pierrot and Dora are telepaths who live on the nearly empty island of Celestia, a stone fortress where some people took refuge when a great sea invasion came to the mainland. Pierrot's father has gathered some other telepaths into a group; he says that their thoughts are their own but telepathy belongs to the group; Pierrot resists. He and Dora leave Celestia briefly, meeting others and exploring the hospital where Pierrot's mother used to work; he has visions of a bridge blowing up, his show more mother being killed. People help Pierrot and Dora return to Celestia. Though there is some resolution, Pierrot is clearly suffering from childhood trauma, and Dora seems traumatized as well.
Much of the story is told in the images in the panels, though there is text (some dialogue and some captions). I'm not sure I gleaned all the meaning there was on the page; it is a strange, dreamy story, cinematic; there is a lot of nudity. show less

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review this book!
Love love love the style of this graphic novel. It does truly feel like art and I adore it.
The bits in German were nice because they help place the story and the struggles she’s facing
As a character a bit erratic because of her sleep which I understand because I had that too for so long. The way she snaps at him when they were almost found out in that place, the way she can be so hard were all things I found really relatable show more and very real in her.
All in all, love it! show less

I wasn't sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised.
I liked the parallel stories of Teresa in early 2000s Berlin, and the discovery of King Tutankhamen's tomb, one that can't sleep, one sleeping forever. The raw emotions, the suspense, even for something we know already, and then the moments that are not shown take another dimension as well. It had a bittersweet, coming of age feeling, and I liked the art style.
Thank you Europe Comics and NetGalley for giving me a copy of the book in show more exchange for an honest review. show less

Affascinante.
