So far so wonderful. Somehow I had gotten the impression that Bonners books were older (since several are on OpenLibrary), but this is new enough to have cell phones, etc.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying the lack of artificial drama like the girls being jealous of each other, and the details. For example: "Lark Ascending" is, I find, a lovely piece indeed, and I recommend you listen to it yourself. The different approaches to drawing are explored in a way that will help me with art appreciation. show more Kate's sisters' names, Anne and Zee, are clearly something to do with A-Z; read the book yourself to find out what!

ok done...

I love the two different fathers and their influences on the girls. And how they did have one glitch in their friendship, and how they worked it out. And the realistic mix of adventure, joy, tragedy, and the mundane that make up all our lives... this book has universal appeal imo.

Oh, I just don't have the words. I enjoyed it so very much and would have treasured it as a child, too. And the art lessons are wonderful! I can't imagine how much richer my life would have been if I'd learned this stuff when I was 9 or so. And so, on top of my four stars, I have to give the book a bonus star for how much I would have gotten out of it back then.

Thank you Manybooks for alerting me to this. Recommended to all my friends who like middle grade stories, especially the ones that aren't stuffed full of the issues of the day.

A cute middle-grade novel about a girl who speaks up when she sees something that needs fixing. The dedication in the front of the book is great: "To everyone who ever said, 'Somebody ought to write a letter'--and then wrote it."

While Bob housesits for a friends, he also looks after their cat; the cat’s behaviors are paralled by natural explanations for them, how they evolved. Interesting treatment of a cat’s everyday behaviors.
the book is slow starting but I quite enjoyed it as the story picked up.
