This manual is the most poorly organized operator's handbook and programmer's guide I've ever seen. Information essential for understanding a feature or an operation is scattered everywhere, some of which is not indexed.
On the other hand, as a tribute to the well-written nature of the software itself, SuperSort is the most effective, efficient, and flexible DOS utility program I've ever used.
Seymour I. Rubinstein founded MicroPro International Inc. in June, 1978. Rubinstein made an show more arrangement with Rob Barnaby, a programmer Rubinstein met at IMSAI, to write a word processing program and a sort/select utility. WordStar and SuperSort were the first products sold by MicroPro International in September 1978. In 1984, Micropro was the largest software company in the USA.
SuperSort is written in assembly language for DOS and can sort files faster in a Windows XP command window than Microsoft's own sort utility.
SuperSort allows you to sort one file or merge several sorted files. You can specify logical selection or exclusion criteria for records to be sorted or merged. SuperSort can also be used to convert files from one format to another, e.g., dBase III to comma delimited. My copy of SuperSort came from MicroPro International by way of Ellis Computing Inc. The Trio Company of Cheektowgo NY is the current owner and distributor of SuperSort.
SuperSort is the only sort utility I ever found that could sort a comma delimited file on any field or combination of fields. This is difficult to do because both fields and records are of variable lengths in comma delimited files.
SuperSort is still in daily use at my institution. It runs exceedingly well on a Windows XP machine in a DOS emulation window. SuperSort is stable and fast, and is an order of magnitude better than Microsoft's own command-line utility called SORT.
In 2008, a shorter, better organized SuperSort manual could be found at the new owner's website here:
