I was disappointed with this book. From the title I was expecting more of a retelling of David's story, using narrative to draw me into the story and give me fresh insights. To be fair, the introduction did explain that the book was more of an examination of various episodes in David's life, with lessons drawn from them. It did fulfil this aim, and I can see it being useful as a daily devotional / group study book / resource for sermon preparation for certain audiences. However, it does show more assume a fairly conservative view on textual criticism (you'll have to be happy to go along with David having personally written the Psalms). I was also uncomfortable with the amount of material quoted from a work by Eugene Peterson, which suggested to me that the book I was holding may be a little derivative. show less
This book is about taking a great leap by allowing larger Christian groups to become smaller and therefore the hurch becomes more effective. The church must become missional
