The narrator tells of his time on James Brooke’s ship and what he did after he left Mr. Brooke’s employ until he returned to his employ again in Tom McWilliams’ VOYAGE EAST. The narrator tells of the problems that arose when Mr. Brooke did not have the same goals in mind as his partners. He also tells of what he learned as he worked different ships in and around Singapore, Malay, and Borneo.

VOYAGE EAST is the set up for Mr. McWilliams’ book THE WHITE RAJAH. It gives some basic show more details as to why Mr. Brooke is there and what he is like. The narrator tells us how he saw Mr. Brooke and how they met. He is in awe of Mr. Brooke and his easy familiarity with others. It makes me want to read THE WHITE RAJAH. show less
self-published book, story was fictionalized but based on a historical event. technically written well but based on the implausible premise of British operating in the guise of an Indian native during this rebellion. oh yah...with an M-M relationship that felt peripheral.
