It's a while since I read this but roughly speaking the author describes how he went to the soviet Union in the 1920's from the USA (having emigrated there from Eastern Europe) as a communist/strong sympathiser and having seen the reality behind the propaganda changes his views about the USSR. Arriving as an honoured visitor (courtesy of his political views and coneections) and been impressed he decides to stay. Whoops, big mistake - as a factory hand he sees what is actually happening and show more how the "honoured visitors" are duped, changes his mind and returns the the US. show less
