My first job out of undergraduate architecture school was at DeStefano + Partners in Chicago – I started March 10, 1997, to be precise. After an initial period of getting adjusted and helping out on this project and that project, I was put on Chicago Public Schools, designing and layout out additions to existing CPS buildings, many from the early 20th century. The additions followed the prototype classroom designs developed by D+P, meaning that design was limited to exterior expression and show more special spaces like the gym and cafeteria. Going further beyond the prototype was always a desire for me, but it was not to be when working on CPS at D+P. A glimmer of hope came in seeing the competing and winning designs (Koning Eizenberg, Marble Fairbanks) in CPS's small schools competition, which are collected in this book creatively bound as three books within a folder. show less
