I liked the idea, implicit in the story here, that finding balance is an show more important thing, and that even quiet book-lovers sometimes need people around. As someone who requires quite a bit of "alone time" to read and ponder, I identified with the rabbit's desire for a quiet spot of his own, but acknowledge that socialization is also vital. The artwork in My Very Own Space is colorful and very cute - I really liked Rebecca Crane's use of color and shape - reinforcing my impression that the publisher, Flying Eye Books, seems to produce visually striking picture-books. Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories about needing space, and needing companionship as well. show less

Hilarious misdiagnosis based on the books, misidentifications. Shows that acceptance is more important than and accurate perception of yourself. I liked it for discussion on identity and misinterpretation.

A tale of a merchant who kept a parrot in a cage, and inadvertently brought the parrot advice on how to free itself. "Mah Jahan was surprised to find that she was happy to lose her parrot to freedom. That is because I truly do love that parrot, she thought." Beautiful, unusual illustrations float on a white background that gives the eye plenty of space to relax and absorb the story and pictures. The caravan page, where the reader can see what each camel carries, is particularly show more good.

Translated from the author/illustrator's original Persian. Back matter includes "About the book" and "about the author and illustrator." The latter note reveals that the author made the merchant in the story be a woman instead of a man, as in the original. show less

Book offers exposure to many different items within the British Museum. The book would have been better if it had an opening page introducing the British Museum. I would show more have also loved some labels on the picture of the items to help identify them for my children. (Items are identified with an index in the back of the book.) show less
