A beautiful large format book which shows detailed closeups and full page photos of various works by Fra Angelico. Fra Angelico is a saint in the Catholic Church whose body is still revered in Rome at Santa Maria Supra Minerva. The clear photos are accompanied by the relevant scripture texts and brief commentary explaining the meaning of the works to the non-specialist, or those not previously introduced to art history. Several sections of this book have illustrations on onion-leaf paper show more which is unusual for art books. There is a brief biography of Fra Angelico which introduces the work. The Florence Dominican convent San Marco is now a museum which displays many of his art pieces and is worth the time to visit. Fra Angelico is a master of religious painting who saw his work as a means of catechesis and evangelization. His work is in the Vatican, Rome and many larger art museums such as The Getty, Los Angeles. show less
