The seventeenth and latest in the invaluable series of rapid reviews of British General Elections since 1945. It sets the context of the campaign and describes how it progressed in detail (including the formation of the coalition). This is supplemented by detailed statistical tables and an illuminating 42 page analysis of the results.
In spite of its rapid appearance, I only spotted 10 errors.
A book which should be on the shelves of anyone with a serious interest in British politics.
2717 The British General Election of 1992, by David Butler - Dennis Kavanagh (read 11 Mar 1995) This is one of a series covering every British election since 1945. It is awfully insular, so I could not appreciate it fully. There is also an analysis by a couple of political scientists, full of the arcane statistics they revel in. The 1992 British election was a very satisfying one to me since I like John Major, and it was fun to read about the surprising (to pollsters) results.
