Excellent collection on the identity and place of the OPC within the stream of Presbyterian and American Presbyterian history. A repeated theme or thesis is that the OPC is outside the cultural establishment that is a primary component of mainline American Presbyterianism. That the mainline Presbyterians are enmeshed in American culture accounts for the seemingly odd fact that at times the liberals and the evangelicals form common cause against orthodox Calvinism. Highly recommended. Another show more fascinating theme is the need to see "church history" (ourselves) in line with the redemptive-historical narrative of the Scriptures. History becomes exhortation in Charlie Dennison's writings. show less
