Starting just after the main character is raped, John Meany’s Save Me introduces a woman hoping to save her own life and her unborn child’s, while threatened by a cartoonishly evil duo of bad guys. But some bad guys really are just that bad, and, despite lots of backstory, the tale holds the reader’s attention well as Ashley struggles to survive.
In later scenes the writing becomes more detached and stilted, perhaps mirroring Ashley's confusion of creativity with despair. Soon she’s show more spiraling into depression and addiction, and haunted by ghosts, while her mother looks after the baby. The greatest threat Ashley needs saving from now may be herself.
The casually detached writing style keeps readers well-protected from the character’s pain, lending a sense almost of voyeurism to the tale. But there’s an underlying romance, plus lots more characters and themes to explore, while success and salvation both prove easier than they seem by story’s end.

When a stranger comes to the door, and the teenager’s home alone with the dog, and the back door’s open because the dog’s outside, life goes terribly wrong. The dog is Dylan’s security, his only friend in life. And the only others he might turn to for help are his parents, late coming home from work, and God, in prayer. Meanwhile the stranger talks to his cell-phone, and the dog wonders why human beings insist on talking to people who aren’t there.
Author John Meany projects his show more reader’s convincingly into the thoughts of a loyal best friend as this story progresses. Meanwhile he channels the voice of a shy 15-year-old equally convincingly, making this novella read almost like talking to a boy and his dog. It’s a truly scary tale, set in a convincingly real suburbia, with some great twists and food for thought.

I really did like this book. I felt like the book had a lot of potential as far as subject matter and the romance attached to it as well. Also, the dialogue was pretty real to me, though I would have like to see it flow a little better in order to make it more believable when it came to intense situation However, overall, it was very good. I felt for the character and even cried a little at certain times. I definitely want to see more from this author soon

"Save Me A Novel" by John Meany was a story that was loosely based on a true story, and was published under the controversial title 'Pregnant Rape.' This novel is not happy...even somewhat depressing however, the read you will be able to feel the emotions that will present a very realistic and moving story. The characters were well developed, believable and very colorful only to give you a good read. show more This novel "Save Me" was written very well and once you are into the read it flows very well to the end and will leave you will a message from this author. After the rape, the drugs the drinking will Ashley end up dead somewhere? This is the time that I say you must pick up the good read to see what happens to Ashley. The author did a wonderful job with this story of not making it 'too graphic or vague' but really making it 'not all victims of rape stay victims.' show less
