I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book. Jenessa is a very determined young woman. When she's on a story, she gives it her all. It was great to see the possibilities out there in terms of suspects: Logan, his father, his step-mother, etc. So many possibilities for so many reasons!

Debra Burroughs did a fine job in creating this story. Her characters were very life-like and the dialogue felt realistic enough to pass the muster. I also like the surprised thrown in there: show more especially about Sarah and Logan, and Ramey and Logan. It was totally unexpected and cleverly done. show less
Emily Parker, a great character that exudes a lot of confidence and spunk, is a real estate agent. Her husband, a Private Investigator, had been shot to death six months earlier, and the murder has gone unsolved. Emily is approached by Delia, a former client of her husband, to take over the investigation her husband had begun. Emily agrees and becomes a Private Investigator with little or no experience. She also hopes to solve her husband's murder during this adventurous quest. And the story show more unfolds ----

This was a nice sweet romance, mixed with mystery, and it had an interesting premise. You will find no foul language or graphic sex in this book - kudos to the author for that! However, the story was rather predictable, not very exciting - I was ready for it to be over. I found that some sections were too wordy, moving slowly - it just didn't grab my interest. It was an easy read - perhaps too easy - and the ending was a let-down with unanswered questions. I'm sure that was to entice the reader on to the next book in the series. I have another one of the books in the series loaded in my Kindle, so I'll be reading it sometime in the future. If you're looking for a relaxed, easy read, you'll probably enjoy this book. My rating is 3 stars.

With her life going from bad to worse, reporter Jenessa Jones is drawn back to her small hometown by a death in her family. When human remains are discovered not far from town, Jenessa is assigned the story, throwing her into the thick of town drama. Caught between her old boyfriend, with whom she shares a sordid past, and her new love interest, who offers her something she has desperately been wanting, Jenessa is embroiled in a homicide investigation that ends up pointing the finger at show more someone she cares very much about. Can she uncover the truth of this murder before it destroys her family and any chance she has for a happy life? show less
For me this book was slow going because of the narrative style. It is third-person style which I find, at times, to be difficult for me. I find it hard to form a relationship with the characters when a story is told in this style. However it is a compelling look at everyday life in a alcohol related domestic violence home. It is a poignant reminder of how sad and painful that life is for all. Sofia and Eva's hopes for the future and their tenacity at reaching that brighter future brings to show more mind the resilience of families caught in this nightmare. I found this to be a very interesting story and would like to read what happened after this book ends.
