My copy has copyright 1999 with this edition 2003. Big book with about half the book taken up with different topics like; anatomy of dogs, care and management, health and breeding, history of dogs, dogs in the arts, showing dogs, classifying dogs, and British Dog breeds. Very good and interesting reading in the first half. I remember reading it when I first got the book and could enjoyed looking through it again.

Half page given to each breed with all the info written together in text along show more with Breed Information box: Name, Other Names, Official Recognition, and Color Variations. Also has a Breed fact with a paragraph or two of interest, and 4 boxes to display Group, Coat Care, Size, and Feeding. It says it has descriptions for over 400 dog breeds, which I think is more than my other books, and it is where I go to find books that aren’t in my other encyclopedias.

I would recommend getting this book and reading it for the first half of the book, or maybe to have it for a breed you can’t find in another book. But there isn’t enough history or interesting facts on each breed specifically for me to recommend it if you want a book with more depth of information per dog. show less
